According to US immigration laws, you can only apply to be a citizen after you have remained a green card holder for at least 5 years in the United States. Five years would mean for five years. If you are a bit confused, then all you have to do is to check your green card. The date there is the date that would be used in the calculation. Therefore, for your citizenship after green card quest to be successful, you would have to wait for five years.
If you do not start out your wait like a full green card holder but started out as a conditional green holder, then your time would start counting from the period when your conditional permanent resident card ends. This is usually for two years. Therefore, citizenship after green card period would take about seven years for you.
However, you can start the application for citizenship after your green card within 90 days of your green card reaching five years. When submitting and filing for a US citizenship, you would be asked to file the N-400. You would also be asked to provide your biometrics as well as other documents which you would need.
