When someone tells you he or she has an American green card,  there is usually a nice ring to it. It is really what many people dream of having one day and many people know that they would only enjoy this privilege when they spend a long period of time in the U.S.  Some try various means to make it shorter.  But before you fill out an American green card application, there are some eligibility considerations you have to put into perspective.  It is only when you are sure that you can think of applying alone or if your family members can apply with you.

  • American green card application through family

You can fill in your American green card application as an immediate relative of the US citizen if you happen to be the spouse of the American citizen, the unmarried child under the age of 21 who is the child of an American citizen and parent of a US citizen who is more than 21 years old.

You can also fill your American green card application as another relative of the U. S.  citizen or relative or a permanent resident still under the family category. You have this privilege if you are the unmarried child of a U. S.  Citizen and you are about 21 years of age or older. It also applies to you if you are married to a U. s citizen.  It also allows you and you can use this category if you are the sibling of a U. S citizen at least 21 years of age.

  • American green card application through fiancée of an American citizen or the fiancée’s child. You can fill this aspect of the application of you are the fiancée of an individual who is a permanent resident of the US. You can also fill this category if you are the child of a fiancée of a US citizen. This provision makes it possible for couples and children to be together in one family.  You can also apply under this category if you are a widower of an American citizen and you were married to your spouse before he or she died.
